Analyzing the Sales and Marketing of a New Software Application In this homework

Analyzing the Sales and Marketing of a New Software Application
In this homework assignment you are asked to determine the sales and marketing approach you would recommend for a new software application. The intent of this assignment is for you to apply your learned knowledge so far in the course to a realistic situation. It is not uncommon for a product manager to have a fellow employee come to you with an idea and be asked to determine how it would be marketed and sold. The focus here is to demonstrate your understanding of the marketing concepts and to be creative on how they are applied to the scenario. It is NOT for you to become an expert on marketing health related software products.
The Scenario
Imagine work as a product marketing manager for a software development company that offers a wide range of software products designed to help consumers manage their health. The typical products are exercise trackers, sleep trackers, nutrition trackers, etc. Some are desktop application-based and some run on portable devices such as Android and Apple tablets as well as Apple and Android phones. In other words, there is a wide depth of expertise in your company and they have asked you to analyze a new product idea. Don’t concern yourself with the product development costs or timeframes, strategy, etc. at this point. You might consider competition when determining the price.
The Product Idea
The new product idea is for an application that will provide allergy information to consumers so that those persons with food allergies can make informed choices about the risks of eating a specific food perhaps in a restaurant or while in the grocery store.
Your Analysis
Your job is to create a framework for understanding the target audience, some guesstimates about demographic aspects that could be used for determining the marketplace size as well as how to contact them, apply the 4 Ps as applicable, and to take a look at the key features as well as potential benefits to focus on when promoting/selling the product. How you mix and match these is up to you, but make sure to utilize enough concepts to show your understanding.
Provide your analysis using the following sections headings (as a starting point). (Feel free to add additional sections if you would like but please follow this format so I can track your thinking processes.) Make sure that you include references from the course readings and other sources using APA format to support WHY you are approaching the section topic/solution in the way that you present. You can express your opinion along the way but this paper cannot be based primarily on your opinion. If you need more information to perform the analysis feel free to make assumptions and then explain that it is an assumption and why you chose it.
I am not looking for you to write a major novel in this assignment. You are to explain your thinking behind the application of the class concepts to this real-world situation, supporting your approach with the course readings, etc. Please follow the rubric –
My expectation is that this assignment will be between 4 and 6 pages in length with APA page and paragraph formatting not including the references and front matter. To get you started, use this APA format listing from https://www.scribbr.com/apa-style/format/ :
Set page margins to 1 inch on all sides.
Double-space all text, including headings.
Indent the first line of every paragraph 0.5 inches.
Use an accessible font (e.g., Times New Roman 12pt., Arial 11pt., or Georgia 11pt.).
Include a page number on every page.
Complete the following sections:
Describe your understanding of the situation and product you are investigating.
What is the name you are giving to the app you are evaluating? (Have fun!)
Describe your Ideal Customer for this application? What would be the primary need that the ideal customer is looking to fulfill.
Describe AT LEAST 3 demographic characteristics (i.e., age, gender, education, income, family status, etc.) of your Ideal Customer for this product. Explain your rationale for picking these characteristics.
For each characteristic from number 4, describe how you would use that demographic trait to find prospective buyers.
List AT LEAST 3 key features of the application that would be important to your Ideal Customer. Explain your rationale for picking these features.
List AT LEAST 3 key benefits that your Ideal Customer would gain from the purchase of this product or service. Explain our rationale for picking these benefits.
Discuss your analysis of the 4Ps with respect to this product and your Ideal Customer. Explain your analysis of each “P” and explain how it informs how you intend to sell the product. Briefly describe your rationale for: how you would explain the product to your ideal customer (product), where and how would you plan to sell the product to them (place), at what price would you offer the product (price) and what special offers (promotions) you would try to get them to use it.
How do you feel about your analysis? What is missing from it? What more would you have liked to know? Now that you have completed your analysis, what additional features do you think this product should have to make is most saleable?
Try to have some fun with this assignment! It is an exercise in imagination as well as a class assignment where you get to show your understanding of the subject.

Objective: This assignment is to critically evaluate the effectiveness of the retailer’s in-store IMC strategies. For
this assignment, you need to correctly identify the types of IMC the retailer is engaged in by applying your
knowledge of IMC, and critically evaluate the IMC strategies employed and suggest how to improve them.
Instruction: You will (1) physically visit a retailer store (e.g., grocery, book store, liquor store, outlet mall),
restaurant (local or franchise), or a service provider (e.g., gym, hotel, spa, body shop, cleaner, doctor’s office) of
your choice and (2) observe in-store IMC strategies (e.g., advertising, sales promotion, personal selling
(salesperson/store employee), etc.).
You will submit a report of up to 2 pages (12 pt font, double spacing, and 1” margins; no cover page
required ) in which you (1) evaluate and explain the strengths and weaknesses of the current in-store promotion
strategies of the retailer, in relation to their IMC goals, and (2) make critical suggestions to improve their IMC
strategies based on the weaknesses to better meet the IMC goals. You need to include at least two photos of the
IMC elements taken by you at the retailer that show what you are referring to in your report on the third page
of the report.
 The retailer you visit can be a place you visit often or visit for the first time, work, or associated with your
family members or friends. The retailer can also be a local store or a franchise business. Please include
such details in terms of the location of the retailer and why you chose that retailer for this assignment to
begin with.
 Your report should be strictly based on your own observation and written in your own language. The
report I am looking for is the one where I feel as if I went to the store with you and observed what you
described in person. The amount of effort you made will show in your write-up. Don’t rely on your
cursory memory or any other external online sources for expert opinions. You do not have to use fancy
terms, either. However, incorporating the concepts and ideas you have acquired from this class is always
welcome.
 While you focus on in-store IMC strategies, you might mention how the retailer’s IMC strategies promote
the connections with the online IMC strategies. For instance, many restaurants these days offer a QR code
menu alone, calling for the use of mobile devices to connect with online IMC elements. Target also
makes you scan your Target Circle (Reward program) barcode at the check-out for an additional discount.
Recently I went to Wendy’s, and throughout the in-store poster, I learned that Wendy’s focuses on
supporting foster care adoption, which is a beautiful cause. As such, firms strategically utilize various in-
store IMC elements to communicate to their customers what their goals, missions, and purposes are.
Grading criteria: Please see the grading rubric at the end of the document for details.
 Criterion 1: Critical Evaluation of the Retailer’s Current In-Store IMC Strategies (35 points)
 Criterion 2: Suggestions to Improve IMC Strategies based on the Weaknesses (35 points)
 Criterion 3: Overall Quality of the Assignment (30 points).

Submission method: You need to use Microsoft Word to create the report. The total length of your submission
should be up to 3 pages: Up to a 2-page report (12 pt font, double spacing, and 1” margins) and 1-page for at
least two photos of IMC elements taken by you at the retailer). Once completed, save the document, and submit
it as an attachment in the “Application Activity 2” Dropbox folder on Folio.
 Note 1: If an incorrect file or unfilled worksheet is attached, you will receive a score of zero on this
assignment.
 Note 2: I am not a Mac user, and therefore, I am unable to open any file saved in a “.pages” file format.
You need to convert the “.pages” file format to “.doc”, “.docx”, or “.pdf”. Otherwise, you will receive
an automatic “0” regardless of your submission on time.
 Note 3: There is a penalty for late submission once Dropbox closes, and any problems (technological
or otherwise) will not be accepted as an excuse.

Marketing Sports Equipment
The purpose of this assignment is for you to propose a sales promotion based on what you know about the product and the target market. For this assignment, read Case 2 that is titled “Marketing Sports Equipment” on page 364 of your textbook. After reading and studying the details of the case, respond to the following questions with thorough explanations and well-supported rationale:
Academy Sports + Outdoors offers products that would appeal to a variety of target markets. Identify a minimum of three target market groups using the following denotations: TM1: xxx, TM2: xxx, and TM3: xxx. Remember to think about demographic, behavioral, psychographic, and geographic criteria when defining each target market.
For each of the target markets identified in question #1, what two types of consumer sales promotions (discussed in Chapter 12) should Academy Sports + Outdoors offer? Explain.
Looking at each target market you proposed in question #1, what are two types of media that might be the most effective in reaching each of the target markets? Which two might not be as effective? Include your rationale.
The case states that Academy Sports + Outdoors receives a high volume of requests for sponsorship activities. Based upon the target markets you identified, what sponsors would you recommend that the company partner with?
Your response should be a minimum of two, double-spaced pages. Include a title page and references page. References should include your textbook and a minimum of one additional, credible source. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations and must be cited per APA Style guidelines.

Consumer Research Document
The purpose of Assessment 1 is to demonstrate
your ability to thoroughly investigate the target audience that relates to the
brief. The challenge here is to decide
what information is important and relevant.
This project requires an extensive
amount of work. Each week during the
lecture and in the tutorials, specific sections of this report will be
addressed and explained; therefore, it is vital that students attend lectures
as well as tutorials.
The information that you present in
this assessment must be supported by credible sources (e.g., Roy Morgan data,
Australian Bureau of Statistics data, academic journals, and industry
publications). You will be evaluated on
your ability to research information, to analyse the information and present it
in an easily understandable manner.
Your information is to be presented in
PowerPoint format. You have a maximum of 25 slides provide your research
information (approximately 2,000 words) and it is expected that you will used
graphs and charts to demonstrate large amounts of information.
Your consumer research document
consists of the following.
1.Target Audience analysis (15 marks)
Using information from Roy Morgan
data, ABS, and other credible sources you are to provide a demographic and
psychographic profile of the consumers that you are aiming to reach.
This is your chance to show that you
understand the target audience. Make
sure that you provide an overview of that shows what is important to them? Where do they live? What are their media habits and how will this
influence your media strategy? You will
identify your target audience using psychographic and demographic profiles and
use tools such as Autobiography, A day in the Life and Pictography to
illustrate your target audience. You are to consider the customer path to
purchase and barriers to purchase and how this will impact your media
approach. You will provide details of
this target audience’s media imperatives and explain their media usage. The
ability to analyse the data is important here.
Make sure that you consider the implications of the information rather
than providing information for the sake of it. (Max 15 slides)
2. Product and Market Analysis (5 marks)
In this section you are to provide
relevant research that provides information about the product. You are to
provide a description of the product and the product category and identify key
issues which may influence your media selection and plan. Using Roy Morgan data and other resources you
provide analysis of the product. You are to provide a brief SWOT analysis and
the possible influence of PEST (Political, economic, social and technology).
This information must be based on your research and you must be able to cite where
your findings come from. You are to
indicate the relevant points that may have an influence on your media selection
and plan. (Max 5 slides)
3. Observations and Insights (15 marks)
From the market analysis, product
analysis and target audience analysis you are to provide observations that form
a creative and overarching key insight. You are to consider how this insight
might be used as part of an advertising approach. Does this insight impact your media approach
or your creative options?
This insight is to form the starting
point for your media strategy which will be presented in Week 13. The insight
should be creative and be based on your findings and observation. Make sure you justify why this insight is
relevant to this target audience. Developing creative and relevant insights is
often the area that students find most challenging, so we run a workshop on how
to develop creative insights. (Max 2 slides)
4. Inclusion of evidence (10 marks)
This section is graded on how well you
justify and support your findings across the assessment. Make sure that you don’t just provide
information for no reason. Make sure
that the information that you provide is from credible sources (both academic
and industry sources) and that you reference the source. When grading this section, we are looking at
the variety of sources and the credibility of sources.
5. Presentation (5 marks)
Throughout the document you are
expected to provide data to support your findings and correctly use APA
referencing. You are expected to utilise
graphs and charts to illustrate some of your findings, but they must be
relevant to your insights. Your
PowerPoint deck should contain an introduction, conclusion and reference list.
(Max 3 slides)

ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION:
As a global pandemic ravaged the world in 2020, the United States was further confronted
with divisive political and social issues- Black Lives Matter, defunding the police, gender
equality, and LGBTQ+ rights, to name a few. For many years now, companies like Starbucks,
Nike, and Dove have shown support for social issues through product transformations and
renewing public relations efforts, usually through controversial marketing attempts.
However, the increasing demand for corporate responses to heightened social issues has
forced many previously silent companies to finally speak out across their various digital
communication channels. For this assignment, students will explore the success or failures
of a 2020/2021 advertising campaign to better understand how companies can contribute
to transforming social issues, and still cultivate and maintain valuable -and profitable-
consumer relationships.
You will select a current advertising campaign that has been in the marketplace for an
amount of time appropriate for evaluation and analysis. Provide a critical assessment of
the campaign’s success/failure. Each student will write an 8-10 page paper (exclusive of
cover and references) and evaluate the campaign including course material.
DOCUMENT SPECIFICATIONS:
 8-10 pages (exclusive of cover and References pages)
o Minimum of 8 sources. A mix of scholarly and marketplace sources is
REQUIRED. Utilize databases, books, and resources available in/through the
library. Since scholarly sources are more credible, they should receive more
attention than marketplace texts. Academic Integrity policies will be strictly
enforced.
o Required: Cover sheet with your name, double-spaced, 12-point font, 1-inch
margins.
o Minimum of 2-3 images: include appropriate examples, screen shots, and
images to highlight and explain the specific points of your analysis.
 Select a current advertising campaign that addresses a social, political, health
and/or economic issue, and provide a critical assessment of its success/failure.
o Research the company, brand, product, and specific campaign thoroughly.
Use marketplace and scholarly sources (both are REQUIRED). Provide a
general overview/understanding of the company, brand, and product that
led to the execution of your selected campaign.
o Position the company in the context of the marketplace. For example, Avis
strategically positioned itself using the “We Try Harder” tagline as the #2
most successful/recognized car rental company. Why? How was that
effective? What other competitors and market factors influence(d) this
positioning?
o Briefly identify and explain the advertising opportunity/issue/problem that
yielded the campaign and its message. What is the desired target audience?
Is this an integrated campaign? Evaluate the IMC components.
o Analyze the effectiveness of the campaign efforts and draw connections using
5-7 theories, models, and/or overarching key concepts from our class
2
lessons and readings. Bold and cite these specific connections. Develop your
analysis fully.
 Provide a separate appendix at the end of the paper that identifies
each theory, model, key concept in the form of a glossary.
o Explain the campaign’s general success/failure based on your analysis.
 Use headings and sub-headings to clearly organize your paper.
 Include a properly formatted APA Reference page
 No spelling, grammar, or punctuation errors. Professionalism, clarity, and accuracy
are required.
