Respond to the following items in 2-3 well-written paragraphs. Once you have responded, read and respond to the ideas of at least 2 of your classmates during the week. Refer to the syllabus for guidelines on discussion participation.
Summarize three main points you took away from these videos presentation.
Given what you have learned this week about the social sciences, education, and the transformative effect of technology on learning and development, propose an educational model for the future. What do you think should stay the same, what should change, and what role does technology play in helping to implement your model? What are the potential consequences (positive and negative) of the changes you propose?

Growth mindset is a concept you can apply in your academics and on the job. It’s also a way to approach day-to-day life. Here are some examples of everyday situations in which you can consciously choose to respond with a growth mindset.
Example 1: Your morning is full of the unexpected. You hit the snooze button too many times, resulting in waking up late for work. As you rush to get out the door to your job, you accidentally spill your coffee and have to take time to clean up the mess. Since you left your home later than usual, traffic is moving at a snail’s pace. A fixed mindset response would be grumbling about your crummy morning. A growth mindset response would be committing to waking up earlier and devising a more effective morning routine.
Example 2: Most people like to be winners, and kids on sports teams are no exception. So when your daughter, who spent tireless hours in the backyard practicing her jump shot, makes 10 out of 15 shots—leading her basketball team in scoring on game day—you can praise her by giving a fixed mindset response or a growth mindset response. A fixed mindset response would be “Great game! You’re a spectacular athlete!” A growth mindset response, by contrast, would be “Great game! Your dedication, practice, and hard work were reflected in your performance tonight.”
In the Discussion forum, share some examples of how you can apply growth mindset in your daily interactions, either in a professional setting or in your academics. Here are some prompts to address if you need some ideas:
How do you handle a new project or task at work, home, or school?
How do you embrace working in groups when you prefer to work independently?
How would you react to your instructor’s suggestion to incorporate a data component into an assignment for your non-math-related course?
What do you do when you don’t understand something that everyone around you seems to have caught on to?
To maintain the pace of your course progress, post your response to the discussion questions during Week 2. Also, to make this discussion interactive, please respond to postings from at least two classmates. Give your classmates positive feedback on their growth mindset response, or offer an example of a time you were in a similar situation and responded similarly or differently, explaining how your response helped you (or not).

This week we focused on learning, how we are constantly learning new things, how it is beneficial to have a growth mindset approach to learning, and how it is helpful to reflect on our strategies as a learner. As you reflect on these strategies, think about how you previously learned a new skill, subject, or process in an informal setting. When we often think of learning, we focus on formal settings–your high school classroom, an online class you took, military training, or a bootcamp for a certification exam. Informal learning experiences can teach us quite a bit, though. What strategies and approaches did you use in your informal learning experience? How can you apply those to learning new concepts and skills while you’re a student at University of Maryland Global Campus? Even if the university environment is new to you, you come to learning with skills, strengths, and strategies you can draw from to connect new knowledge to what you already know.
For example, think about how you learned to cook a new dish by following a recipe. Perhaps you first blocked out time to read the recipe all the way through, noting the ingredients and tools you would need to make the dish. When it came time to make the dish, you might have followed the recipe step by step, then asked your partner or a friend to taste it and share his or her opinion. Based on that feedback, you adjusted and customized the recipe. After that, you practiced making the dish several times, adding your own flavors and spices to perfect the recipe to your liking. Once you became familiar with the recipe, you may have progressed to making the dish from memory.
As a university student, you can apply this same learning process and strategy to your academics. Let’s look at the correlation between the two. When you’re learning a new concept or skill in one of your courses, first, set aside time in your schedule to learn. Next, read about the topic and take notes to deepen your understanding. Practice what you learned, maybe by using flashcards or completing a set of exercises. Next, share what you learned with others, such as your instructor or classmates, to get their feedback on your work and to enhance your learning from their input. Finally, practice a few more times until you can readily transfer what you learned to different contexts.
For this assignment, take some time to reflect on the following questions:
Consider a learning experience that was successful for you. What were you able to learn?
What did you do that helped you succeed in your learning?
How would you apply those strategies to your classwork at University of Maryland Global Campus?
In one to two double-spaced pages provide your answers to the questions in a Word document. A template for this assignment is available for your use. Upload it to the Assignments Folder by 11:59 p.m. ET on Tuesday of Week 2.

Good Morning Scholars, We know that negotiating is a part of everyday life, but

Good Morning Scholars,
We know that negotiating is a part of everyday life, but in business, it’s absolutely critical to your success. Poor negotiation can cripple a company just as quickly as losing key customers. Always begin a negotiation with the end in mind. Try to determine what you believe to be an acceptable outcome. Then try and talk through your steps to achieve that outcome.
Example: Negotiating for a raise or additional benefits. Determine the amount in advance that you want to get prior to speaking with your boss. If you want a 10% pay increase, decide if actually getting between 7% and 10% would meet your requirements. Schedule a time to meet. Present first the things you have done that have positively impacted the business. Use financial impacts, increase in customer service, or new ideas that have been implemented. Make the case for deserving the raise. Be prepared to allow your boss additional time to take your request under consideration and pinpoint a scheduled time for follow-up. If your boss approves your increase somewhere between your required percentage, then you get what you want. If it falls below your required percentage, be prepared with a follow-up plan, but do accept the raise offered.
For this week, please write a two-page summary (proper MLA format) on how you would approach your manager about negotiating for a raise or other benefits. You can based your analysis on a prior experience or think creatively if you have never done this before. Please think about these issues and answer the following questions in your analysis.
1) How would you approach your manager? For example, would you explain that you deserve because you are great? You could take approach that it is not about me, but here is a salary analysis that I conducted regarding a person like me with this background, experience, and skill set.
2) Do some research on salaries for certain jobs (it does not have to be extensive, just review some sites). Summarize the key data points based on your background. If you do not have experience, focus on what the career that you think that you are aiming at when you graduate.
3) Remember that compensation is more than just salary. Please include other benefits that you could negotiate for that are important to you.

No matter the business or the location, wait lines are found in every business and every day. Wait lines exist anywhere and everywhere – from fast food restaurants and manufacturing operations, to airline passenger boarding and prescription refills. We all have to wait for some good or service. As an example, consider how long it took you to renew your driver’s license. How long did it take you to buy that last minute loaf of bread?
No matter the situation, customers do not like to wait. Granted, we are all locked in to the Department of Motor Vehicles, but if possible, customers will move to the competition with fewer wait times. Wait lines must be analyzed and kept to a minimum cycle time.
Another tool in the MBA’s Management Science toolbox is the Wait Line Model. The Wait Line problem is a programming tool that is easily solved for with the use of Excel and the proper formulas. The Wait Line Model in an Excel template can solve for mean time between customers, time per service, traffic intensity, utilization rate of server, average number of customers waiting in line, average waiting time, and probability of no customers in the system.
In this assignment you will use the Excel data analysis tool known as Wait Line Single Server, Infinite Population, Poisson Arrival, Constant Service Time, Unlimited Queue Length tool.
The Excel setup for this problem is embedded here
download
. There is no need to set up anything! The embedded Excel file has all the formulas included. You need only plug in the different values called out below to solve this Wait Line problem!
Assume you are in a medical provider’s office and there is a single provider. The waiting room is full. Also, assume that the unit of time is hours, arrival rate of customers per hour is .9, and the service rate is .75 customers per hour.
Answer the following questions:
What is the mean time between arrivals?
Exact time per service?
Traffic intensity?
Utilization rate of server?
Average number of customers waiting in line?
Average number of customers in system?
Average time waiting in line?
Average time in system?
Probability of no customers in system?
Explain the implications of this wait line model on business operations. What steps need to be taken to optimize wait times without jeopardizing the health of the business?
Provide a brief narrative of your wait line analyses and describe the importance of the use of this tool for business and industry. Insert this narrative as a text box in the excel file.
